Arctic blast later this week

[Updated 06:55 22/10/2018]

Red sky

The first half of the week brings a lot of settled weather to the southern half of the UK but in the north it will be more  changeable. After a cooler start, temperatures in the south recover during the next few days. However, by Friday a major change takes place as Arctic air plunges southwards across the UK....READ IN FULL

Monday starts with some showery rain in Scotland but it is mainly dry elsewhere. Through the rest of the day sunny spells develop widely in southern and central areas. The north has more cloud and it will be windy with outbreaks of rain in northern and western Scotland.

It will be cooler in southern regions than recently. Temperatures range from 8C (46F) in northern Scotland to 13C (55F) in the south. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Winter 2018/19 weather  - update 3

Tonight wet weather continues to affect northern and western Scotland. Some rain could also reach Northern Ireland but elsewhere it stays dry, although it will be windy in the north. The south has a chilly night under clear skies.

Tomorrow should be dry and bright in much of the country. It stays windy in the north, and western and northern Scotland have further outbreaks of rain. Temperatures recover in the sunny areas and it should feel quite warm during the afternoon.

Cold blast from Friday

Little changes on Wednesday as high pressure remains centred just to the west of the UK. However, through the second half of the week high pressure moves farther west in the Atlantic and that open the gates to a plunge of cold Arctic air.

On Thursday it probably remains dry and mild in southern and central counties. In the north outbreaks of rain develop and overnight they spread southwards. Much colder conditions follow on behind as the rain clears away. Showers filter into the north and they could turn wintry even at low levels with some places seeing their first snow of the season.

Saturday looks cold nationwide. Showers continue to bring sleet and snow at times in the north. Even in the southern half of the UK there is the possibility of a wintry mix and over high ground wet snow is not out of the question.

Cold conditions continue on Sunday. Wintry showers may become more scattered as high pressure starts to push in from the west.

TWO heads for the cloud

During the next couple of weeks we'll be working hard to migrate our website and services to cloud based servers. Very appropriately for a weather based business you may say! The transition means big changes behind the scenes and they could could lead to some service disruption and snagging problems. Once the move is complete we'll have a much flexible platform that makes it easier to expand and provide new services in the future.
