High pressure holds the fort

[Updated 07:55 18/10/2018]

Red sky

The north has some rain in the next few days, but most of the country has a lot of dry and calm weather. High pressure is expected to stay close to the UK next week so the settled theme goes on. Temperatures will become close to the average but it could turn colder towards the end of the month....READ IN FULL

Thursday begins dry and in the north there has been a touch of frost overnight in places. The rest of the day will be fine with sunny spells, but in the south and far north skies cloud over at times.

Temperatures range from 8C (46F) in northern Scotland to 16C (61F) in southern England. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Winter 2018/19 weather  - update 2

Tonight outbreaks of rain spread into the far north west. Elsewhere it will be dry and chilly with ground frost possible in the north.

Tomorrow outbreaks of rain push eastwards across Scotland and Northern Ireland but they become increasingly patchy. Elsewhere it will be dry but in the west there is likely to be more cloud than today.

Wet weekend in the north

On Saturday wet and quite windy weather is expected in the north. The heaviest outbreaks of rain affect western Scotland with areas to the east of high ground remaining drier. Southern and central regions have a fine and pleasantly warm day.

Through Sunday outbreaks of rain spread southeastwards into northern England. Behind them it turns colder and showery. Southern and central counties remain dry and quite warm. Temperatures possibly approach 20C (68F).

High pressure in charge next week

Early next week a band of patchy rain clears southwards. After that has moved away high pressure builds strongly and becomes centred close to, or just to the west of the UK. That leads to settled weather and the risk of nighttime frost and fog increase.

TWO heads for the cloud

During the next couple of weeks we'll be working hard to migrate our website and services to cloud based servers. Very appropriately for a weather based business you may say! The transition means big changes behind the scenes and they could could lead to some service disruption and snagging problems. Once the move is complete we'll have a much flexible platform that makes it easier to expand and provide new services in the future.
