High pressure remains in charge

[Updated 07:00 17/10/2018]

Red sky

There will be some rain in the next few days, particularly in the north west, but also a lot of dry weather. High pressure is set to remain close to the UK next week so the settled spell continues. Temperatures will be mostly above the average but we are reaching the time of year when it could turn cold if the Atlantic flow remains disrupted....READ IN FULL

Wednesday begins with a narrow band of rain stretching from the south coast up through London and into East Anglia. Through the rest of the day that doesn't move far and although the rain is likely to be mainly light, a few heavier bursts are possible. Elsewhere there will be a good deal of dry weather but showers pepper the north west and the far north of Scotland.

Temperatures range from 8C (46F) in northern Scotland to 16C (61F) in England. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Winter 2018/19 weather  - update 2

Tonight the patchy rain gradually moves away from the south. In the north clear spells could lead to a ground frost in places.

Tomorrow high pressure brings more quiet weather. In the south thicker cloud could produce a few spots of rain but central and northern regions have sunny spells. Across the far north of Scotland there is a risk of some patchy rain as Atlantic disturbances brush by.

Friday and the weekend

During Friday outbreaks of rain push into the north west of the UK but they become increasingly patchy and fragmented. Southern, central and eastern regions remain dry and temperatures for most will be above the seasonal average.

The weekend is looking fine in southern and central counties. In northern Britain and Northern Ireland it will be more changeable and on Sunday a band of rain may push southeastwards. Temperatures will generally be above the seasonal average.

High pressure in charge next week

It currently looks as though high pressure will become centred close to or just to the west of the UK next week. It will be quite warm to begin with but towards the end of the week there is a possibility of colder air pushing down from the north.

TWO heads for the cloud

During the next couple of weeks we'll be working hard to migrate our website and services to cloud based servers. Very appropriately for a weather based business you may say! The transition means big changes behind the scenes and they could could lead to some service disruption and snagging problems. Once the move is complete we'll have a much flexible platform that makes it easier to expand and provide new services in the future.
