Friday starts with heavy rain in central and western areas but much of eastern Britain is dry. It is very windy, particularly in the west where gusts are exceeding 60mph in coastal locations. Through the rest of the day it stays mainly dry in the south eastern corner. Elsewhere there will be further heavy outbreaks of rain this morning, but in the afternoon showery conditions should return to Northern Ireland and much of Scotland. The wet and windy weather is expected to lead to travel disruption and flooding in parts of the west. During the second half of the day winds should start to ease in northern England and eastern Scotland.
Maximum temperatures range from 14C (57F) in the north west to 21C (70F) in the south east. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

On Sunday wet weather gradually clears eastwards. There is the potential for heavy outbreaks of rain to affect southern, central and eastern England for a time. As the wet weather pulls away it turns cooler and brighter, but in the west showers develop. It will be less windy than recently.
An area of high pressure is expected to build across the UK on Monday. That should lead to a dry day and close to average temperatures in most of the UK. However, in the north west there is a risk of wet weather pushing in from the Atlantic.
Through Tuesday and Wednesday a band of rain steadily moves southeastwards. That is followed by showery conditions, but high pressure may build back in from the southwest quite quickly.
