Indian summer on the way for some

[Updated 08:10 07/10/2018]

Red sky

The UK will be sandwiched between high pressure over the continent and low pressure systems in the Atlantic for much of the coming week. That leads to Indian Summer like conditions in the south and east, and at times the warmth filters northwards. However, north western areas have very wet periods and at times it becomes stormy....READ IN FULL

Sunday starts dry in England and Wales and there is quite a widespread frost. In the north west of the UK it is a cloudier picture with outbreaks of rain. During the course of the day the wet and windy conditions spread eastwards across Northern Ireland and Scotland. In western areas the rain will be heavy at times. Elsewhere it stays dry and bright.

Temperatures range from about 8C (46F) to 14C (57F) in the south. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Tonight the band of rain in northern areas edges slightly further. Southern and central regions remain dry but cloudier skies stop temperatures falling as low as last night.

Tomorrow wet weather affects much of Northern Ireland and Scotland. The rain will again by heavy in the west. England and Wales have another dry day and in sunny spells it will feel warmer than today.

Indian summer develops

During Tuesday and Wednesday high pressure remains centred to the east of the UK. Initially Atlantic disturbances keep the weather changeable in the far north west but it may turn drier on Wednesday. Other areas will be mostly fine and increasingly warm is pumped up from the southwest. An Indian Summer period is expected and temperatures may climb to 23C (73F) in England.

Through Thursday and Friday wet and very windy conditions become a risk in the west. There is also the possibility of a band of rain spreading northeastwards with somewhat cooler air following on. Once it clears away high pressure over the continent builds back across the south and fine weather returns for many. In the north west the risk of very wet and stormy periods continues. During the weekend it could turn more changeable in all regions.
