Through the rest of the day England and Wales remain dry with sunny spells. In Scotland and Northern Ireland cloud builds and outbreaks of rain spreads into the west. Winds strengthen in the north and gales are likely in the north west.

After the cold start temperatures recover in southern and central regions to reach 17C (63F). In the north maximum values will be a few degrees lower. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Tomorrow outbreaks of rain and strong winds affects much of Scotland and some patchy outbreaks of rain are possible in other northern areas. Southern and central regions have a dry and bright day. High pressure dominates

The fine and warm weather continues on Thursday in much of the UK but outbreaks of rain are likely in Scotland and Northern Ireland. During Friday a weakening and fragmenting band of cloud and rain sinks southwards. Cooler air follows from the northwest.

High pressure remains in charge of the weather this weekend. That means dry and pleasantly warm days in much of the country. The nights are expected to be quite chilly and there is a risk of patchy frost and fog. In the north weak disturbances flowing over the top of the high pressure could lead to cloud and patchy rain at times.
