High pressure dominates this week

[Updated 07:00 24/09/2018]

Misty weather

After last week's stormy period the weather this week is set to be very different. High pressure will be close to the UK and that keep things mainly dry in the southern half of the UK. In the north an Atlantic influence brings a greater risk of rain at times....READ IN FULL

Monday starts with a few showers in Scotland but elsewhere it is dry and cold. There has been a touch of frost in places with temperatures falling as to 0C (32F) at Benson, Oxfordshire. Through the rest of the day scattered showers continue in Scotland and an odd one may reach northern England. Elsewhere it will be dry and bright.

Maximum temperatures range from about 8C (46F) in northern Scotland to 14C (57F) in the south. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Winter 2018/19 weather  - update 2

Tonight an odd shower is possible in western Scotland but elsewhere it will be dry. Clear spells lead to a cold night and quite a widespread ground frost.

Tomorrow cloud and outbreaks of rain push into the north west of the UK. Elsewhere it stays fine and afternoon temperatures will be a couple of degrees higher than today's in southern and central regions.

Outbreaks of ran push down across the northern half of the UK during Wednesday but they become lighter and patchier as the day progresses. Further south there should be a good deal of fine weather and it will be warmer. Temperatures possibly reach 21C (70F) in central and eastern England.

High pressure dominates

The fine weather in the southern half of the UK continues on Thursday but patchy rain is likely in the north. By Friday that sinks southwards and is followed by somewhat cooler air from the northwest.

High pressure is set to remain in charge this weekend. That means a lot of dry weather and pleasantly warm spells of sunshine in much of the country. The nights are expected to be quite chilly and there is a risk of patchy frost and fog developing. In northern areas weak disturbances flowing over the top of the high pressure could at times lead to more cloud and some patchy rain.
