Sunday starts with heavy outbreaks of rain in southern and central areas. This morning the wet weather pushes eastwards and drier conditions begin to return from the west. By mid-afternoon the rain should have cleared away from the south eastern corner. In the north scattered showers continue for much of the day and over the mountains they may fall as snow, however many places miss them and remain dry.
It will be cold for the time of year. Maximum temperatures range from about 8C (46F) in northern Scotland to 14C (57F) in the south east. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Winter 2018/19 weather - update 2
Tonight showers continue in the far north but elsewhere it will be dry. Clear spells lead to a cold night with a ground frost in the northern half of the UK and possibly even in southern hollows.
Tomorrow high pressure will be building from the west. That gives much of the country a fine day but in Scotland showery outbreaks of rain are expected. After the cold start it will be another chilly day but in the south temperatures should be a little higher than today's.
During Tuesday and Wednesday high pressure slips southwards. That allows disturbances from the Atlantic to bring the risk of rain to parts of the north but southern counties have a good deal of fine weather. Temperatures recover and there is a chance of 21C (70F) being reached in eastern England.
The predominantly settled theme continues into the second half of the week and it could be quite warm in the south at the start of the period. By Friday patchy outbreaks of rain and cooler air are likely to be pushing southwards.
