This evening the rain clears from central and western areas but it continues in the south east. In the north clear spells lead to a cold night with a ground frost and in the Scottish glens temperatures drop below 0C (32F).
By the end of the night and through tomorrow morning further outbreaks of rain push eastwards across southern and central counties. The rain turns very heavy at times and there is a possibility of localised flooding and disruption. During the afternoon drier conditions return to the west and they steadily spread eastwards. Scotland and Northern Ireland have a mix of sunny spells and showers. It will be notably cold for late September, especially in the wet areas.
GFS, forecast rain, 13:00 BST Sun 23rd September
By Monday high pressure will be building from the west. That should give most of the country a fine day but in the north scattered showers are likely. In the south temperatures will be higher than recently.
Tuesday and Wednesday bring a good deal of dry weather to the southern half of the UK. The north starts dry but later on there is a risk of outbreaks of rain returning from the northwest.
The predominantly settled theme continues into the second half of the week and it could be quite warm in the south at the start of the period. Thereafter cooler air returns from the northwest.
