Tuesday starts with heavy showers in western Scotland and outbreaks of rain in Wales and much of northern England. During the day the rain edges slowly southeastwards but it becomes lighter and patchier. To the north of it there will be a good deal of bright weather but heavy showers continue in western Scotland. The south eastern corner of England probably remains dry throughout the day. It will be windy, particularly in the north.

Temperatures range from 11C (52F) in the north west to 20C (68F) in the south. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Tonight wet weather extends northeastwards over much of Wales and England. At times the rain will be heavy but later on it should become patchier and confined to southern counties. Areas to the north have clear spells but showers continue in western Scotland.

Tomorrow the remnants of the rain gradually clear from the south. Central and northern areas have a cool day with sunny spells but showers continue in the north west. It remains windy in the north west.

DWD ICON, forecast rain, 13:00 BST Wed 12th September

On Thursday high pressure building from the Azores keeps it mostly dry and bright in the south. In the north a brisk westerly flow brings showers with the heaviest ones expected to be in the west.

Mixed end to the week

Changeable weather continues through the rest of the week. On Friday central and northern regions have sunshine and showers. The south could see a few showers too but there should be a good deal of dry and bright weather as high pressure remains quite close.

Saturday looks wet and windy in much of the north. The south probably remains dry and in sunny spells it should feel quite warm. Details for Sunday are uncertain but it looks as though a band of rain will spread southeastwards into Wales and northern England. To the south and north of that a good deal of dry weather is likely.
