North to south split this week

[Updated 07:00 10/09/2018]

Autumnal fall

September has been a quiet month so far with the Central England Temperature (CET) running about 0.3C above the 30 year average. During the coming week high pressure continues to bring quite a lot of fine weather to southern counties but in the north it will be cooler and more unsettled....READ IN FULL

Monday starts with showers in the north west of the UK but elsewhere it is mostly dry. This morning showers continue in Scotland for a time but cloud will be thickening in the west. During the afternoon wet and windy weather pushes eastwards over Northern Ireland and much of Scotland. England and Wales have a mainly dry day with bright spells in the south, but later on there could be patchy rain in the north west.

Temperatures range from 11C (52F) in the north west to 22C (72F) in the south where the cloud breaks. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Winter 2018/19 weather

Tonight the rain spreads eastwards across the northern half of the UK and drier conditions return to Northern Ireland. Wet weather also pushes into Wales and parts of western England but central and eastern areas stay dry.

Tomorrow should be warm and dry in the south. Temperatures may push up towards 25C (77F) if sunny periods last into the afternoon. An area of cloud and rain will be pushing southeastwards across central areas, but there is some uncertainty about timing. The north has cooler and showery conditions.

On Wednesday further outbreaks of rain are likely in central, and possibly southern areas as a disturbance becomes slow moving. Areas to the north of it have a cool and showery day. Counties to the south of London may keep a good deal of dry weather.

North to south split

Through the rest of the week high pressure builds from the southwest to keep southern counties mostly dry, although some showery spells of rain are possible. In the north there will be an autumnal feel to proceedings with disturbances from the Atlantic bringing spells of wet and windy weather
