Friday is off to a dry and chilly and start in much of the country but heavy outbreaks of rain are affecting parts of eastern Scotland. Through the day they slowly pivot down into north eastern England and in other northern areas scattered showers bubble up. Southern and central counties have a dry and bright day.

Temperatures range from 14C (57F) in the north west to 19C (66F) in the south. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Tonight further rain is likely in northern Scotland. Elsewhere it becomes dry but during the second half of the night cloud and rain push across Northern Ireland and into western Britain.

Tomorrow wet and windy weather spreads eastwards across Wales and much of England. Southern England probably escapes most of the rain but there is likely to be a lot of cloud. The best conditions may be in Scotland where a mix of scattered showers and sunny spells is expected.

Monday should be dry and bright in southern and central regions. In the north west heavy outbreaks of rain push in from the Atlantic and they steadily extend over much of Scotland and Northern Ireland. It also becomes windy in the north and west.

GFS forecast chart 1

GFS, forecast pressure and rain, 16:00 BST Mon 10th September

During Tuesday and Wednesday wet weather slowly edges southeastwards and cooler air follows it from the northwest. Through the rest of the week high pressure should keep it mostly dry in southern and central regions for much of the time but the north has further wet and windy periods. Temperatures are expected to be close to average in the north but the south stays quite warm.
