Thursday begins mostly dry and cool but there are a few showers in the north west. Showers continue through the day and although they will be scattered one or two could be heavy in the north. Cloud amounts vary but most places have some spells of sunshine.
Maximum temperatures range from 12C (54F) in the north to 21C (70F) in the south east and East Anglia. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

The month ahead - August
Winter 2018/19 weather
Tonight clear periods lead to a cool night in much of the country and a ground frost is possible in sheltered parts of the north. South eastern England remains cloudier with isolated showers and later on it may become overcast in the south west.
The meteorological summer is set to finish quietly tomorrow in much of the country. After a chilly start pleasantly warm sunny spells develop in central and eastern areas but an odd shower could break out. In the west cloud builds and during the second half of the day outbreaks of rain push into Northern Ireland and possibly parts of western Britain.
Meteo France Arpege, forecast temperatures, 16:00 BST Fri 31st August
High pressure is expected to be centred close to eastern Britain by Saturday. That should lead to a lot of dry and bright weather in southern and eastern areas. In the north and west weak disturbances from the Atlantic bring the likelihood of cloud and patchy outbreaks of rain.
A similar set-up remains in place on Sunday, but in the north west winds strengthen and heavier outbreaks of rain probably spread into Northern Ireland and western Scotland. Southern and eastern counties have another fine day with temperatures pushing into the mid 20Cs.
High pressure bosses the weather across the UK for much of next week. That leads to predominantly dry and fine conditions. Temperatures may reach 27C (81F) in the southern half of the country and there are signs of the warmth filtering northwards. There is a greater risk of rain in the north west as Atlantic disturbances brush by, but even there a good deal of dry weather is expected.
