The weather during the rest of the working week and Bank Holiday weekend will be mixed and all regions of the UK can expect showers or longer spells of rain at times. Drier and brighter periods are expected too, but temperatures will be disappointing for the time of year....READ IN FULL
Thursday starts with wet weather in Northern Ireland as well as much of southern and central England. Elsewhere it is mostly dry. The rain in southern and central counties slowly spreads southeastwards through the day and is followed by brighter conditions this afternoon. The heavy rain affecting Northern Ireland pushes eastwards into northern Britain and it becomes more showery. In the rest of the north and west blustery showers become widespread but there will be sunny spells too.
Maximum temperatures range from 14C (57F) in the north west to 22C (72F) in brighter parts of southern England this afternoon. It will also be quite windy, particularly in the north and west. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view

Winter 2018/19 weather
Tonight showers continue in the north and west. Elsewhere it should be mostly dry and under clearing skies it feels fresher than recent nights.
Tomorrow starts mostly dry and bright but showers quickly become widespread and heavy. Temperatures will be on the low side for the time of year peaking at about 14C (57F) in Scotland and 19C (66F) in southern England, and blustery conditions make it feel cool.
Meteo France Arpege, forecast rain, 16:00 BST Fri 24th August
The mixed weather continues through the Bank Holiday weekend. On Saturday sunny spells develop but scattered showers are likely, especially in eastern counties. However, many places should miss them and remain dry. It will be cool so if you are planning a barbecue in the evening have your woollies at the ready! Through the night cloudy skies and outbreaks of rain probably push into Northern Ireland.
During Sunday wet and windy weather gradually spreads eastwards to be followed by clearer and showery conditions in the north west. Some heavy outbreaks of rain are likely but there is uncertainty about the timing so keep an eye on the place and postcode forecasts for the latest view.
GFS, forecast rain, 16:00 BST Sun 26th August
On Bank Holiday Monday early rain clears eastwards. Drier and brighter conditions follow from the west but there is a risk of showers bubbling up. In the south it should feel pleasantly warm in sunny spells.
The rest of the week looks set to bring fairly typical weather for late August and early September. High pressure centred to the west or southwest builds towards the UK at times, but disturbances moving in from the Atlantic bring the risk of rain. In general the driest and warmest periods are likely to be in southern counties.
