The month ahead - August
Winter 2018/19 weather
Tonight the rain slowly edges into parts of southern England. Behind it there will be clear spells but in Scotland and Northern Ireland showers develop.
Tomorrow morning outbreaks of rain continue in south eastern England but they should clear away by the early afternoon. Elsewhere there will sunny spells but showers develop and they become heavy in the north west. The north has a cool day and temperatures in the south will be a lot lower than recently.
Meteo France Arpege, forecast temperatures, 16:00 BST Thu 23rd August
The showery conditions continue on Friday. After a chilly start daytime temperatures peak at about 14C (57F) in Scotland and 19C (66F) in southern England, so it will be cool for the time of year. Through Friday night and into Saturday morning there is a possibility of more prolonged spells of rain pushing eastwards across the southern half of the country.
The cool weather continues on Saturday. Sunny spells are expected but there will be showers too, however as is usually the case some places probably miss them and they tend to become more scattered later in the day. A cold night follows and in sheltered parts of the north a touch of ground frost is possible.
Forecast details for Sunday are uncertain. It looks like after a dry start outbreaks of rain develop in the west and south west. Through the day they spread northeastwards across much of the UK, but eastern counties could remain dry.
On Bank Holiday Monday early rain probably clears eastwards. Drier and brighter conditions follow from the west but there is a risk of showers bubbling up.
