Winter 2018/19 weather
Tonight it becomes dry with clear spells in most places but showers continue in the north west. During the second half of the night cloud thickens in the north west and outbreaks of rain push into Northern Ireland and western Scotland.

GFS, forecast rain, 16:00 BST Fri 17th August
The changeable theme continues this weekend as the UK remains sandwiched between high pressure to the south and low to the north.
On Saturday a weak weather front is likely to be straddled across the north of the UK. That gives some rain but areas to the south of it should have a dry day with variable amounts of cloud and some spells of sunshine. The air mass will be a very warm one so if the sun shines for any length of time temperatures soar and possibly reach 26C (78F).
During Sunday heavy spells of rain push eastwards across the north. There is uncertainty about their exact track, so keep up to date with the latest forecasts if you are planning a barbecue or outdoor event. Southern and central areas should have another dry and warm day.
Next week begins with warm and dry conditions in the south but the north remains more changeable. Through Tuesday and Wednesday cooler air is expected to push southeastwards. The rest of the week remains quite mixed but the south should have a good deal of dry weather.
