Wet weekend as Storm Debby arrives

[Updated 07:10 11/08/2018]

Puddle

Heavy rain is likely in much of the UK this weekend as Storm Debby approaches from the west and pushes humid sub tropical air northeastwards across the UK. Next week the changeable theme continues but the chance of warm and dry periods increases in the south....READ IN FULL

Saturday starts fine but it is cool with temperatures widely in single figures. This morning sunny spells develop in central and eastern regions but outbreaks of rain push into the south west. Through the afternoon the rain extends across Wales, Northern Ireland and western England. Elsewhere it should remain dry but cloud builds.

Maximum temperatures range from 16C (61F) in the north west to 23C (73F) in the south east. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view

The month ahead - August

Winter 2018/19 weather

This evening and overnight outbreaks of rain affect much of the UK and they become very heavy at times in the west. The northern half of Scotland as well as south east England could remain mostly dry.

Tomorrow the wet weather pushes eastwards with further heavy outbreaks at times, but in the afternoon drier conditions return to Northern Ireland as well as much of western Britain. It will be a humid day and in any bright spells that develop temperatures could reach 22C (72F).

Changeable next week

On Monday heavy showery outbreaks of rain are expected but in the west showers it becomes drier and sunny spells return. In the sunshine it should feel pleasantly warm.

The rest of the week is looking mixed. The south probably has quite a lot of dry and warm weather as high pressure centred close to the Azores builds northeastwards towards the UK. In the north disturbances from the Atlantic continue to bring the risk of showers or longer spells of rain, and at times they push southwards.
