The month ahead - August
Winter 2018/19 weather
Tonight the showers become more scattered and gradually fade away. Elsewhere there will be clear spells but later in the night cloud and outbreaks of rain are expected to push into some southern coastal counties and south eastern England.
Tomorrow outbreaks of rain are likely in the south eastern corner and East Anglia. The heaviest of the rain probably remains to the south and east of London but some could reach the Chilterns and the East Midlands. Elsewhere there will be sunny spells but also showers in western Britain and Northern Ireland.
KNMI Hirlam, forecast rain, 10:00 BST Thu 9th August
Friday brings a mix of sunshine and showers. The majority of the showers will be in the north and west, and the south east has a good deal of dry weather. Temperatures in the south east peak at close to 23C (73F).
During the weekend a deep area of low pressure pushes in from the Atlantic leading to spells of wet and windy weather. On Saturday the rain is likely to be mainly in central and northern areas with south counties remaining drier. Overnight and during Sunday outbreaks of rain push southeastwards but their progress could be quite erratic. Ahead of them in the south east and East Anglia there is a chance of very warm air being pulled up from the continent so temperatures could soar in any sunshine that develops.
Next week probably begins quite changeable. Showers or longer spells of rain are possible at times, particularly in the north and west. There should also be drier and warmer periods with the best of them in the south and east. Later on there are indications of it turning drier and warmer as high pressure returns.
