Winter 2018/19 weather
Tonight the cloudy conditions in the north slowly spread southeastwards into Wales and northern England. To the north it will be cooler and showery. To the south it's another dry but warm and muggy night.
Tomorrow southern, central and eastern England have a very warm day with sunny spells. There is likely to be more cloud than today and in the afternoon thunderstorms could break out in the south east. Northern and western areas have cloudier skies and scattered showers. Temperatures in the south probably exceed 30C (86F) for the last time this week.
GFS, forecast rain, 16:00 BST Tue 7th August
By Wednesday the warmest air will have been pushed away eastwards into the continent. Despite that, temperatures of about 24C (75F) will feel pleasantly warm in sunny spells. Northern and western regions have a mix of sunshine and showers.
On Thursday most of the UK has a fresh and breezy day with sunshine and showers. In the south east there is a risk of more prolonged spells of rain as an area of low pressure deepens over France and the Benelux countries. However there is uncertainty about that at the moment.
During the rest of the week weather systems in the Atlantic affect the UK's weather in a way they haven't done for much of the summer. Temperatures are expected to be close to the seasonal average and by the weekend there is a risk of more widespread and prolonged periods of rain.
