Cooler weather spreading southwards

Tuesday brings more hot weather to the south but the risk of thunderstorms increases through the day. Northern regions will be cooler and there could be some patchy rain. During Wednesday the cooler air continues to push down from the northwest but the southeastern corner may still be very warm or hot.

During the rest of the week weather systems in the Atlantic affect the UK's weather in a way they haven't done for much of the summer. Temperatures in all of the UK are expected to become close to the seasonal average and by the weekend there is a risk of more prolonged periods of rain in all regions.
