Thursday starts dry across the UK. Through the rest of the day there will be hazy periods of hot sunshine in much of the country but in the west of Northern Ireland outbreaks of rain develop. There is also an increasing chance of scattered thunderstorms breaking out in Britain with central and north eastern England most likely to catch one.
Temperatures range from 23C (73F) in the north west to a scorching and humid 35C (95F) in central and eastern England. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

The month ahead - July
Tonight thunderstorms affect central and eastern Britain and wet weather slowly pushes eastwards across Northern Ireland. It will be very muggy and temperatures may not fall below 23C (73F) in parts of the south east.
Tomorrow thunderstorms become more widespread in central and eastern Britain but there will be dry periods too. Torrential downpours could lead to flash flooding and difficult driving conditions. Cloud and sunshine amounts are uncertain but there is a possibility of temperatures in East Anglia or the south east reaching 36C (97F). In the west showery rain is likely but there be a reasonable amount of dry periods too.
Meteo France Arpege, forecast rain, 20:00 BST Fri 27th July
Thunderstorms slowly clear northeastwards through Friday night and Saturday morning to be followed by brighter and cooler conditions. Showery rain then spreads eastwards across the northern half of the UK but in the south dry and bright weather is expected. Temperatures will be much lower than recently with maximum values close to 24C (75F) in the east.
On Sunday a more organised band of rain pushes eastwards across all regions. It will also become windy and with maximum temperatures close to 20C (68F) it will feel like we have been fast forwarded from the heat of summer to an early taste of autumn within a couple of days.
Meteo France Arpege, forecast rain and pressure, 16:00 BST Sun 29th July
During Monday and Tuesday a ridge of high pressure builds from the southwest and across the south and east of the UK fine conditions steadily return, although there could be showers early on. In the north west it stays more changeable.
Through the rest of the week high pressure is expected to build northwards across the UK to keep things mostly fine and settled. Its exact positioning will determine temperatures. Computer model runs show the possibility of becoming turn very hot in southern and central regions but warm or very warm conditions currently look more likely.
