Hot and humid weekend

[Updated 07:00 21/07/2018]

Fair weather

Recent days have brought some much needed rain but parts of the UK have missed it completely. The outlook is for more very warm or hot weather with daytime temperatures often peaking close to 30C in the south. Later next week there is a chance of becoming even hotter....READ IN FULL

Saturday starts with patchy rain to the south of London but most places are dry and muggy. The rest of the day brings a good deal of dry weather and sunny spells will develop. In the far north west thicker cloud produces rain at times and in the afternoon scattered thundery showers break out across England and Wales.

Maximum temperatures range from 17C (63F) in the Western Isles to a hot 31C (88F) in the south east and East Anglia. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

The month ahead - July

Tonight outbreaks of rain extend over much of Scotland and possibly Northern Ireland. Elsewhere it stays dry and in the south temperatures may not fall below 21C (70F) all night.

Tomorrow is looking mostly fine. Northern Ireland and western Scotland remain more changeable with cloudier skies and the risk of showery rain. The heat will be building again elsewhere and in the afternoon it may trigger isolated thunderstorms.

Hot and bothered next week

Monday is expected to be dry, sunny and hot in the southern half of the UK. In eastern England temperatures could reach a very humid feeling 33C (91F). In the north there is a greater risk of showers or longer spells of rain, but also some warm sunshine, particularly in eastern Scotland.

The hot and humid conditions continue on Tuesday in southern and central regions. In the north a band of cloud and rain gradually pushes southwards and behind it cooler air returns.

Computer models suggest the cool air will not really make it to southern England and if anything the warmth starts returning northwards on Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday the thermostat may be turned up another notch and there is a chance of 35C (95F) being reached in the south east.
