Hot weather goes on and on

Fine weather

Hot weather is set to continue but this weekend the risk of thunderstorms increases in parts of the south. Computer models suggest it will remain very warm next week.

Friday starts fine in most areas but in the east it is murky. This morning the low cloud in the east steadily burns away and long sunny periods develop. In the northern half of Scotland it is likely to be cloudier.

Maximum temperatures this afternoon will be close to yesterday's topping out at about 31C (88F) in the north west and 28C (82F) in the London area. Near the east coast it remains cooler. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Summer forecast overview

Tonight low cloud returns in the north and east. Temperatures dip to around 11C (52F) in the east but in the west 19C (66F) will be more typical.

Tomorrow the fine weather continues, but there is a chance of isolated showers bubbling up in the south west during the afternoon. The highest temperatures could be in Wales and central southern areas where 30C (86F) is possible. Eastern coastal areas will be cooler again.

Sunday brings more of the same to much of the UK but in the south west and perhaps more widely in the south there is a risk of scattered thunderstorms breaking out. Many places should avoid them but there is likely to be more cloud than recently and it will feel humid in the southern and central areas.

Hot in the south early next week

During the first half of the next week scattered thundery showers are possible but computer models are suggesting a good deal of fine and very warm weather. Maximum daytime temperatures probably edge downwards but values in the upper 20Cs are still possible.

The warmth probably continues through the second half of the week as the Atlantic remains locked out. However the risk of thunderstorms may increase again in southern and central counties.
