Thursday starts with showers to the south of London but elsewhere it is dry. The rest of day should be dry in much of the south but cloudier skies and scattered thundery showers are likely. Central and northern regions remain mostly dry and sunny, although in the north west heavy showers are expected. Easter coastal counties will often be murky.

Temperatures range from 16C (61F) in the east to 22C (72F) in the west. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Summer forecast overview

ICON forecast chart

ICON, forecast rain, 19:00 BST Thu 7th June

Tonight thundery showers continue in the south and south west. The north has clear spells but the south will be overcast and muggy.

Tomorrow thicker cloud brings patchy rain to central and northern England as well as Wales. To the south and north warm sunny spells develop. Thunderstorms could break out in the brighter areas, and they look most likely in the south west and north west. Temperatures push up towards 25C (77F) in the south east.

Weekend weather

On Saturday thundery showers continue with the south and north west most at risk. They will be hit and miss so many places probably remain dry. Temperatures rise quickly during sunny periods but there is likely to be a fair amount of cloud.

Similar conditions are expected on Sunday. Most places have warm sunny spells but thundery showers continue with western areas most likely to catch one.

Changeable and cooler next week?

Early next week showery conditions continue in southern and central regions. In the north it should be mostly dry and bright. Later on there are signs of high pressure building across the south. That would lead to more typical summer weather with the driest and brightest spells in the south and rain mostly in the north.
