Friday starts with showery rain in Wales and the south west but elsewhere it is dry. This morning sunny spells develop but thundery showers begin bubbling up. During the afternoon thunderstorms and torrential downpours become more widespread with the worst of them likely to be in the north and west. Much of the south and east could remain dry and bright. The storms bring the potential for flash flooding and disruption on the roads.

It will be warm and humid. Temperatures range from 21C (70F) to 24C (75F). See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight the storms gradually fade away but they may continue in the north west. Elsewhere clear spells develop but it will be muggy.

Tomorrow heavy showers affect the north and east. The south and west should be mostly dry with warm sunny periods.

By Sunday the showers become lighter and confined to the northern half of the UK. Many places have a fine day and in the south temperatures could reach a very warm 27C (81F).

Drier next week

Early next week isolated showers continue but a good deal of dry and sunny weather is forecast. Temperatures remain above the seasonal average but it is likely to be cooler and less humid. Near the east coast temperatures may be pegged back by cloudier skies.

The fine spell is set to continue through the middle part of the week as high pressure remains centred to the north of the UK. Daytime temperatures should be in the low to mid 20Cs in much of the UK, although eastern coastal counties could remain cooler.

By the end of the week there are signs of low pressure bringing cooler and showery conditions back to the northern half of the UK. The south probably hangs on to more settled and summery weather.
