The Central England Temperature (CET) for May is approximately 2C above the average. Despite the warmth it has been wet in the southern half of the UK recently as low pressure systems centred over France and the Bay of Biscay have made their presence felt.

Wednesday starts with a band of heavy rain stretching from East Anglia to Cornwall. The wet weather slowly spreads northwestwards through the day and drier conditions follow on behind it. Northern Ireland and Scotland stay dry but cloud builds from the southeast later this afternoon. In the south some spells of sunshine are expected to develop.
Temperatures range from 16C (61F) in overcast areas to 22C (72F) in the north west. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight the rain slowly pushes into the far north west and gradually fades away. Elsewhere it will be mostly dry.
Tomorrow thundery showers spread across southern and central regions but there should be bright periods too. The north has sunny spells and scattered showers. It will generally be warmer than today.
Friday brings the risk of cloudbursts and thunderstorms. During the day they spread northwards and in the south it becomes drier and brigther. In sunny spells it will be very warm and humid.
Thunderstorms become more scattered this weekend and many places are expected to remain dry. In sunny spells it will be very warm and temperatures on Sunday could top out at close to 27C (81F).

Temperatures remain above average and a good deal of dry and sunny weather is expected. There are indications of cooler and more changeable weather beginning to return during the middle part of June.
