Saturday begins with showery rain in parts of the south and north east. Through the day sunny periods develop in northern regions. In the south showers become heavy and push westwards with bright spells developing in the east. Cloudbursts and thunderstorms are likely and there is a risk of flash flooding and disruption on the roads.

Temperatures range from 16C (61F) in wet areas to a warm and humid 25C (77F) in the sunshine. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight thundery downpours continue in southern and central regions. The north has a dry night with clear periods.

Tomorrow brings a repeat performance. The north remains mostly warm, dry and sunny. In southern and central counties further downpours are expected. The worst conditions will probably be in central and western parts of the south. In places where long sunny periods develop temperatures could reach a very warm 26C (78F).

Fewer storms on Bank Holiday Monday?

On Bank Holiday Monday there may be more sunshine in the south as storms become increasingly scattered and possibly restricted to areas south of London. Central and northern counties should have a fine day. It is likely to be very warm or hot day with temperatures pushing up towards 28C (82F) in the south.

Staying warm next week

The very warm weather continues on Tuesday and Wednesday but the risk of thundery showers persists in the south. At this stage changes through the second half of the week are expected to be slow. However forecast confidence is low with computer models split between showing high pressure gradually building back and low pressure deepening close to the UK.
