The May Day bank holiday heat record was broken yesterday, with 28.7C (84F) recorded at RAF Northholt in west London. More changeable and cooler weather will return during the rest of this week.

Today starts fine in much of the UK but far north west is overcast and there are outbreaks of rain in Northern Ireland. During the day cloud and rain pushes eastwards across central and northern Britain with brighter and showery conditions following behind it. Southern and eastern England have warm sunny periods but cloud amounts increase and thunderstorms could break out this afternoon.
Temperatures range from 11C (52F) in the north west to close to 27C (81F) in the south east and East Anglia. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight any lingering rain clears away eastwards and clear spells form. It will be cooler and fresher than recent nights.
Tomorrow starts fine but wet and windy weather pushes into much of the north and west. Eastern England remains dry but early sunny spells give way to cloudier skies later on. Temperatures will be down on recent values but 21C (70F) could be reached in the south east.
Thursday brings a mix of sunshine and showers. Southern counties have the driest and brightest spells as high pressure over France weakly ridges towards the UK.
Through the rest of the week an active Atlantic is set to keep things quite cool and unsettled. All of the UK has showers or longer spells of rain and at times it will become windy.
