Heavy rain affects much of England and Wales today and the weekend is looking mixed. On Monday unseasonably chilly and wet weather is expected in much of England. It could even be cold enough for wet snow over high ground in the south.

Friday is off to a wet start in Wales and much of southern England. In the north it is mostly dry and and chilly. Through the day outbreaks of rain affect England and Wales. At times they will be heavy but during the afternoon they become more showery in the west. Scotland and Northern Ireland have a mix of sunny spells and showers.
It will be cold with top temperatures ranging from 8C (46F) to 12C (54F). See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight central and eastern England have outbreaks of rain. In the north and west scattered showers continue. Clear spells in the north lead to a cold and frosty night.
Tomorrow central and eastern areas remain mostly overcast with patchy outbreaks of rain. The north and west have bright spells but during the day cloudier skies could filter northwards.
Sunday looks mostly dry and bright in Northern Ireland and Scotland. England and Wales have a good deal of dry weather too but cloud builds from the south. During the second half of the day wet and windy weather spreads into the south east.
On Monday heavy rain and strong winds are expected in central and eastern England. In eastern coastal counties gales are possible. It will also be unusually cold for the time of year and there is a risk of snow falling over high ground in the south. Western and northern areas should be mostly dry and bright but there is some uncertainty about how far the wet weather will reach.

Tuesday and Wednesday bring changeable conditions with a band of rain pushing down from the northwest. Temperatures should be gradually recovering.
During the second half of the week there are indications of warmer and drier weather developing across the southern half of the UK as a ridge of high pressure builds from the Azores. The details are uncertain and the northern half of the UK probably stays changeable.
