By Friday an area of low pressure is expected be approaching from the south west but there is uncertainty about its development. At the moment the likelihood is that heavy rain will affect southern and possibly central areas. The north remains chilly and showery and over the Scottish mountains snow is possible.
During the weekend another low pressure system probably moves southeastwards into France and then slowly edges northwards into the UK. Forecast confidence is low but the worst case scenario is for a deluge in southern and central Britain on Sunday leading to disruption and localised flooding. In the north a brisk easterly flow brings raw and showery conditions.
The GFS chart below for Sunday shows low pressure bringing very heavy rain to the southern half of the UK.
