The next few days bring fine and warm weather to much of the UK as high pressure over the near continent blocks the flow of Atlantic weather fronts. This weekend the risk of heavy showers increases as cooler air starts returning from the west.

Wednesday begins with patchy outbreaks of rain in western Britain but elsewhere it is dry. Through the day the rain pushes northwards and there could be some heavier bursts in Northern Ireland and western Scotland. Elsewhere it will be dry and sunny spells develop widely.
Much of the country is expected to have its warmest day of the year so far. In the London area temperatures could reach 24C (75F) and across much of England they exceed 21C (70F) this afternoon. The north and west will remain cooler. See the rainfall and precipitation type radar for the latest view.
Tonight rain continues to affect western Scotland and Northern Ireland for a time. The rest of the UK has a dry and mild night.
Tomorrow the mercury rises even further in southern and eastern regions as warm air filters in from the continent. There is a chance of 27C (81F) being hit in the south east. The north west won't be as warm, however there should be some pleasant sunshine.

The fine weather continues on Friday in most areas. Subtle changes will be taking place and cooler pushes over the far north of the UK bringing a risk of showers and cloudier skies.
On Saturday further warm sunshine is likely but the risk of heavy and thundery downpours increases during the day. Many places could miss them so keep an eye on the local forecasts and radar if you are heading out.
GFS 00z, forecast pressure and precipitation, 16:00 BST Sun 22nd April
By Sunday cooler air probably starts returning from the west. That brings the risk of heavy and thundery showers, but in the south and east there could still be a lot of warm sunshine.
Cooler weather is expected to spread eastwards across all of the UK early next week. That means a return to showery conditions and the potential for longer spells of rain at times. Temperatures could tumble sharply and the risk of snow may return to the Scottish mountains.
