Beast from the East v2.0 on the way?

[Updated 09:10 10/03/2018]

Wintry scene

The next few days bring unsettled weather as areas of low pressure stay close to the UK. During the second half of the week forecast confidence falls.

Sunday begins damp in southern counties but in the north it is mostly dry. This morning bright spells develop in the north but there will be a lot of cloud in the south. Through the afternoon heavy showery outbreaks of rain push into the south west and gradually extend northeastwards.

Temperatures range from 10C (50F) in Scotland to 14C (57F) in the south. See the rainfall and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Tonight wet weather affects much of England and Wales and it possibly reaches Northern Ireland too. Scotland stays dry and clear spells could lead to a touch of frost.

Tomorrow heavy showery outbreaks of rain continue across England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland should be mostly dry with some sunny spells.

Tuesday is looking mostly dry in central and eastern regions. In the west the risk of patchy rain increases through the course of the day.

On Wednesday persistent and heavy outbreaks of rain move in from the west. By the evening wet weather is likely to be affecting much of the UK.

The rest of the week and beyond

Beyond mid-week there are indications of high pressure building to the north or east of the UK. That could lead to the return of colder weather. Temperatures would not be as low as they were in late February but widespread nighttime frosts and disruptive snow would be a possibility.

At the moment the majority of medium range computer model runs are not showing another Beast from the East weather pattern, however this morning's GFS model run is one of the ones which is. It shows another push of bitterly cold air feeding westwards across Europe and by the end of the week it reaches the UK. The blues and purples indicate a very cold air mass.
