Friday begins dry and frosty in much of the country but there are wintry showers in Scotland. This morning cloud builds across the southern half of the UK and rain spreads into the south. During the afternoon cloudy skies extend northwards and outbreaks of rain become heavy in much of England and Wales. In Scotland the showers fade away to leave a mostly dry afternoon.

Tonight the wet weather pushes into northern England and Northern Ireland, and over high ground there will be some snow. In the south drier conditions return but in the south west further showers develop by the morning. Much of Scotland stays dry but the rain reaches the south late on.
Tomorrow outbreaks of rain and hill snow affect Scotland. Elsewhere heavy bands of showery rain spread northeastwards. Southern and central regions become quite mild but it remains chilly in the north.

Sunday should be mostly dry with sunny spells in northern regions. In the south showery outbreaks of rain develop and they may push into central areas during the afternoon.
The weather is expected to be unsettled with all regions having further spells of rain. There continue to be indications of high pressure building to the north and east of the UK in the medium term and that could lead to colder conditions later this month.
