Wednesday starts with outbreaks of rain in the south east and East Anglia. In the north and west there are scattered showers but elsewhere it is mostly dry.

Through the morning and early afternoon the wet weather in the south east and East Anglia slowly moves away. Elsewhere there will be sunny spells but showers affect the west and at times they may push into central areas. Over high ground in the north and the Welsh mountains the showers are likely to be wintry. The precipitation chart is for 3pm this afternoon.

Tonight wet weather pushes eastwards across the the southern half of the country. The precipitation could turn to snow over high ground on its northern edge and possibly give accumulations. In Scotland wintry showers continue and a frost develops.

Tomorrow the west has a mix of sunny spells and showers. During the morning the wet weather in the east steadily clears and further wet snow is possible over the hills. Temperatures during the afternoon will be similar to today's values.

Unsettled and wet from Friday

Friday brings more showers to the north. Elsewhere it starts dry and bright but during the second half of the day rain returns to southern counties and winds strengthen.

Overnight and through Saturday the wet weather spreads northwards and over the Scottish mountains snow is possible. In the afternoon dry and mild conditions could push in southern and central counties.

The unsettled theme continues on Sunday as areas of low pressure swirl around the UK. The details are uncertain but showers or longer spells of rain are expected.
