Unsettled but milder than recently

[Updated 07:10 05/03/2018]

Daffodils

An unsettled week is on the way as areas of low pressure remain parked close to the UK. The north remains quite chilly but in the south temperatures will be closer to the early March average for much of the time.

Monday starts dry in central and eastern England. Elsewhere there are showery outbreaks of rain and in Scotland it remains cold enough for snow over high ground.

Through the day more prolonged outbreaks of rain develop in the south west and they extend into central areas this afternoon. The east stays mostly dry and it should become brighter in Northern Ireland too. Rain and hill snow continue in Scotland.

Temperatures range from 3C (37F) in Scotland to 10C (50F) in southern counties. See the rainfall and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Tonight rain spreads northeastwards but in the south it becomes mostly dry by the morning. Scotland has further spells of rain and hill snow.

Tomorrow the southern half of the UK has a good deal of dry weather. The north has outbreaks of rain and over the Scottish mountains snow continues to fall. Temperatures will be similar to today's.

Showery rain continues on Wednesday and Thursday but brighter spells are likely too. During sunny spells in the south it will feel much more spring-like than it did last week but the north remains quite cold.

Unsettled and windy from Friday

Through Friday and the weekend an area of low pressure looks set to deepen in the Bay of Biscay and move northwards towards the UK. That brings an increasing chance of wet and windy weather into southern counties. As the rain moves northwards there is a risk of it turning to snow as colder air from the east is pulled in ahead of it.
