Bitterly cold weather continues during the next few days and there will be further snow showers. By Thursday more persistent outbreaks of snow could be pushing into southern counties but beyond that the freeze begins to ease.

Tuesday begins bitterly cold and overnight there have been accumulations of snow in parts of the north and the south east. This morning a patchy band of snow in northern England pushes southwestwards into Wales. In eastern Britain snow showers continue and through the day they again penetrate further inland.
Conditions will vary noticeably over short distances with some places remaining dry and others having several cms of snow. The forecast chart below gives an idea of where the snow showers are expected to be at 6pm today.
DWD ICON 00z, precipitation type, 18:00 GMT Tue 27th Feb
Temperatures hover close to 0C (32F) this afternoon in much of the country and a brisk easterly wind makes it feel bitterly cold. See the rainfall and precipitation type radar for the latest view.
Tonight further snow showers are in the east and the south east. A severe frost develops with temperatures plunging to between -5C (21F) -10C (14F).
Tomorrow it's a similar picture as the Beast from the East retains its group. There will be further snow showers with the heaviest ones in the east and north east of England. Upper air temperatures over the UK are likely to be at their lowest point and many places could record an "ice day". That occurs when temperatures don't rise above 0C (32F).
Freezing conditions continue on Thursday with further snow showers in central and northern regions. In the south thicker cloud could bring more persistent outbreaks of snow as an area of low pressure approaches from the southwest.
The forecast chart below is for 10am on Thursday.
Meteo France Arpege 00z, precipitation type, 10:00 GMT Thu 1st Mar
Overnight and during Friday the risk of disruptive snow in Wales and central regions continues but in the south west and southern coastal counties precipitation probably turns back to rain.
By the weekend a very messy picture develops but most computer models show the cold block being pushed northwards with areas of low pressure close to the UK. In central and northern parts of the UK it stays very cold with an ongoing risk of snow. Temperatures in the south should begin to recover with precipitation increasingly falling as rain rather than sleet or snow.
1) Exceptionally cold continues during the next few days.
2) Snow showers bring disruption to parts of the UK.
3) During the second half of the week an area of low pressure approaches from the southwest. That brings the likelihood of more prolonged outbreaks of snow in southern and central Britain. Through Friday and the weekend less cold slowly filters northwards.
