Monday starts with a frost in much of the UK and in the north west there are frequent wintry showers. Through the morning and early afternoon wintry showers continue in the west. Although a few showers push eastwards they will be less widespread than yesterday with many places remaining dry and sunny.
Temperatures range from 3C (37F) in Scotland 7C (45F) in the south. See the rainfall and precipitation type radar for the latest view.
Tonight wet and windy weather moves across Northern Ireland and into western Britain. In the north snow is likely and there could be disruptive accumulations by the end of the night. Eastern areas remain mostly dry.
Tomorrow the wet weather spreads eastwards and there is a risk of further snow, especially in the north. It will also be very windy with gales for a time. Cold and bright conditions follow into the west.

Wednesday is a case of rinse and repeat as another band of rain, snow and strong winds pushes eastwards across all areas. Again snow is most likely in the north.
Forecast confidence for the second half of the week remains quite low. Thursday is looking cold and showery. By Friday pressure begins rising from the south so it should become drier in southern counties. Initially the north continues to sit under a changeable westerly flow but by the weekend high pressure begins to be increasingly influential.
The impacts of the Sudden Stratospheric Warming (SSW) event that has been taking place are expected to be felt during the rest of February and the first half of Mach. The SSW increases the risk of cold weather in the UK but it is far from certain because high pressure blocks could align in a way that leaves the UK under a mild south or southwesterly air mass. The latest guidance from computer ensemble models suggests a similar chance of an early taste of spring or a late wintry blast.
