Sunday starts with wintry showers in the north and west but elsewhere it is dry and bright. The rest of the day brings further showers and they will progressively push eastwards. Accumulations of snow are possible in parts of the north. In between the showers sunny spells develop widely but a blustery northwesterly wind makes it feel very cold. The Meteo France Arpege precipitation forecast below is 3pm today.

Temperatures range from 3C (37F) in Scotland 7C (45F) in the south. See the rainfall and precipitation type radar for the latest view.
Tonight sleet and snow showers continue in the west. Elsewhere it becomes dry and cold with a widespread frost.
Tomorrow it remains cold and there will be further wintry showers, again most of them are likely to be in the west. Late in the day cloud thickens in Northern Ireland and during the night outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow push into western parts of the UK.
During Tuesday the wet weather clears eastwards and it is followed by a mix of sunshine and showers. Another band of rain spreads eastwards on Wednesday as the unsettled spell continues.
Forecast confidence for the second half of the week is quite low. Pressure is expected to begin rising from the south so it should become drier in southern counties but initially the north continues to sit under a changeable westerly flow. By the weekend high pressure begins to be increasingly influential, possibly as the impacts of the Sudden Stratospheric Warming (SSW) event that is currently taking place begin to be felt.
The SSW increases the chance of cold weather in the UK during the second half of February. However it is far from certain and the high pressure blocks could align in a way that leaves the UK under a mild south or southwesterly air mass. The chart below from today's ECM operational model run shows how high pressure over the near continent could lead to relatively mild weather in the UK during the second half of February despite the SSW.
