All of the UK will have unsettled weather in the coming days. Temperatures vary and at times it will be cold enough for sleet and snow. As we head beyond the middle of February a Sudden Stratospheric Warming (SSW) event increases the chance of a cold easterly flow and snow.

Friday begins with heavy rain in the south east and East Anglia. Behind that is a clearance but in northern England and Wales there is a band of showery sleet and snow. By mid afternoon that clears eastwards and it could bring some wet snow to quite a large area but accumulations will be mostly over the hills. Northern Ireland and Scotland have a mix of sunny spells and heavy wintry showers.
The ICON precipitation forecast chart for 3pm today shows the wet weather clearing from the east.

It will be cold with temperatures ranging from 2C (36F) in northern England to 5C (41F) in the south. See the rainfall and precipitation type radar for the latest view.
Tonight further outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow spread into the north west. To the south and east it remains dry and under clear skies a widespread frost develops.
Tomorrow outbreaks of heavy rain push southeastwards. Over high ground in the north snow is likely but temperatures will generally be up on today's values. Sunday will be a cold day. In the east it should be mostly dry but western regions have frequent and heavy wintry showers.
Monday looks chilly but mostly dry as a weak ridge of high pressure builds in from the west. Through the rest of the week it is expected to be unsettled and at times it will be cold enough for snow in the north.
During the second half of February a Sudden Stratospheric Warming (SSW) event probably disrupts the usual pressure patterns across the Northern Hemisphere. As a result cold blocks of Arctic air could be displaced to mid-latitude locations. That increases the chance of very cold weather affecting the UK but at the present time the medium range computer models are continuing to show a wide range of possible outcomes.
