The coming week brings a mixed bag of weather but it will be quite chilly at times. In the longer term there remains a moderate chance of a more significant period of cold weather.

Monday starts with a three way weather split across the UK. Much of Wales and northern England is wet and windy. Areas to the south are dry and mild, and those to the north cool and showery. The band of rain and strong winds moves southwards today and clears away by the evening. Drier and brighter conditions follow but wintry showers continue in the north west.
Temperatures range from 5C (41F) in the north to a 12C (54F) in the south. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.
Tonight the north west has a few showers but elsewhere it will be mostly dry. Clear spells lead to a widespread frost by the morning.
Tomorrow wet and windy weather extends across the north west and over the Scottish hills it will be cold enough for snow. Outbreaks of rain could also push into southern counties. Elsewhere it remains dry with sunny spells.
During Tuesday night and Wednesday morning wet weather spreads southeastwards. Once it clears a cold northwesterly air stream develops and wintry showers become widespread. The showery picture continues into Thursday.

During Thursday night and through Friday wet and windy weather returns from the northwest. The weekend is looking unsettled and there is the potential for it to become stormy on Saturday.
The outlook for the next week is uncertain. Most computer models point towards an unsettled westerly pattern continuing, however a few show high pressure building over Scandinavia and very cold air filtering into the UK from the east. That set-up has been very rare in recent decades so confidence in it happening is low.
