Heavy rain clears from the south east to leave all regions under a chilly and showery northwesterly flow. During the middle of the week there is the potential for high impact weather as a disturbance moves in from the Atlantic.

Monday starts wet and windy the south but this morning brighter skies return. Elsewhere showers become widespread and in the north they turn increasingly wintry. The showery conditions extend across all regions this afternoon and it will be blustery in the west. In the south winds become lighter.
Temperatures range from 4C (39F) in the north to 11C (52F). See the rainfall radar for the latest view.
Tonight heavy wintry showers continue. In the north and west accumulating snow is likely over high ground and possibly down to low levels at times. A frost develops in sheltered central and northern locations.
Tomorrow all regions have a mix of sunny spells and wintry showers. In the north and west they will be frequent with many of them falling as snow. Accumulations are possible at low levels in the north and over the hills in central Britain.

Wednesday starts cold and showery but during the second half of the day a significant disturbance is expected to push in from the Atlantic. Most computer models show it heading across the north with heavy rain and stormy conditions affecting much of the UK on Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Wind gusts of between 60mph and 90mph are possible over a large area. In Scotland there could be heavy falls of snow.

Cold and showery conditions return after the disturbance moves away eastwards on Thursday. Beyond next weekend there are indications of milder air beginning to push in from the southwest.
By the weekend a ridge of high pressure is expected to push in from the west. That brings the likelihood of drier and calmer conditions for a time. By the end of the weekend weather fronts and milder air from the Atlantic could start to return. The latest guidance for next week suggests quite a changeable and rather mild picture.
