The weather remains quiet but often murky in the short term. A change is expected by Monday as weather fronts push in from the Atlantic. Next week the risk of snow increases, particularly in the north and over higher ground.

Thursday starts with light rain in the east. Central and western regions are dry with patchy fog and frost. Through the day it probably remains damp in the east but elsewhere a few bright spells develop although fog will be reluctant to lift.
Temperatures range from 4C (39F) in Scotland to 8C (46F) in parts of the south but it will be cold where fog lingers. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.
Tonight it's a similar picture. The east stays overcast but northern and western regions have clearer spells which allow frost and fog to return.
Tomorrow brings a repeat performance in central and eastern areas. In the west a change begins to develop during the afternoon as strengthening winds clear away the fog.
On Saturday wet and windy weather spreads across Northern Ireland and into western Britain. Central and eastern areas have overcast conditions and patchy drizzle.

The rain fades away overnight to leave a good deal of dry weather on Sunday and in the east it should be brighter than recently. In the far north west it becomes very windy during the second half of the day. Generally feeling chilly.
Quite an unusual spell of unsettled and rather cold weather is forecast for much of next week. Pressure remains low over continental Europe and with the jet stream tilted northwest to southeast the UK is likely to be sitting under a chilly west to northwesterly air stream. Showers or longer spells of rain affect all areas and at times it could be cold enough for snow. The snow risk is greatest over the northern hills but anywhere north of the M4 corridor could see snow.
