All regions have another very cold day with outbreaks of rain and snow in the south east. The rest of the week is looking changeable but often quite cold.

Monday begins with a mix of rain, sleet and snow in southern counties and in the south eastern corner there are some heavy outbreaks. Through the morning and the early part of the afternoon a mix of rain and snow continues in the south east, probably reaching to the west of London. Most of the snow is expected to be over high ground and it will be wet so isn't likely to add much to existing accumulations. Drier conditions return this afternoon. Central and northern parts of the UK have a bright day with a scattering of wintry showers.
The Meteo France Arpege forecast chart shows wet weather in parts of the south this morning at 10:00 GMT today. Most of the precipitation is expected to be rain or sleet at lower levels but some wet snow is possible.
Meteo France Arpege 00z, 11th Dec, precipitation type 10:00 GMT Mon 11th Dec
Maximum temperatures range from 0C (30F) in the Scottish Highlands to 5C (50F) in East Anglia and the south west of England.
Tonight clearing skies lead to a widespread frost in all areas. Some very low temperatures are likely where there is snow cover. Central areas could see values plunging to -8C (18F).

Tomorrow it remains very cold and dry in central and eastern areas. In the west cloud builds and during the afternoon outbreaks of rain develop. In northern areas they are preceded by a spell of snow and over high ground significant accumulations are likely.
Early on Wednesday rain clears southeastwards and less cold air returns. Showers become heavy and widespread with snow restricted to high ground in the north. Temperatures will be close to the mid December average in southern and central areas but still on the low side in the north.
During Thursday and Friday colder air filters southwards again. Inland southern and central areas should be mostly dry and bright but showers in northern and western areas turn increasingly wintry.
Through Friday and the weekend it remains quite cold. There is a risk of wintry showers becoming more widespread for a time.
Next week a milder period of weather is forecast to develop. High pressure to the south and low pressure to the north will allow a west or southwesterly flow to become established across the UK. That is a typical pattern and it could last beyond Christmas.
Sunday 10th December brought the heaviest fall of snow to much of southern and central Britain for a number of years. TWO is based just outside London in a Chiltern market town called Berkhamsted. About 14cm of snow fell in our locality and you can see some pictures of it in the Berkhamsted snow gallery.
The TWO winter forecast has been issued and suggests a colder and drier than average season. This year it has been particularly difficult to reach a conclusion. Buzz looks at Sunday's snow risk. TWO's fourth winter discussion update has been issued. The winter forecast covering December, January and February will be issued this week.
TWO's annual Christmas Countdown continues.
Cold conditions develop in the short term. Next week rather cold and changeable weather is favoured but by the second half of the month the number an increasing number of runs show it becoming milder. View latest GEFS.
