[Updated 07:10 20/11/2017]

Stormy weather

The next few days bring unsettled weather and at times it becomes very windy. Most of the UK will be very mild but by Friday the colder conditions in northern Scotland begin to spread southwards.

Monday begins damp in much of the UK and across Scotland and south eastern England there are some heavier outbreaks of rain. Through the day rain in the north spreads eastwards and it becomes lighter from the west. Elsewhere there will be drizzle but drier and possibly brighter periods too.

Most of the UK has a mild day with temperatures reaching 12C (54F) but in northern Scotland it will be colder. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.

Tonight wet weather spreads across northern regions. Southern and central regions remain mostly dry and mild.

Tomorrow wet weather affects Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland. During the course of the day another band of rain pushes into western and possibly central areas. It will become windy, especially in the north.

Wild and mild mid week

Through Wednesday it remains unsettled. A band of rain is expected to spread eastwards across England and Wales. It is likely to become very windy in the south with gales or even severe gales in the south west. Scotland and Northern Ireland probably remain colder and brighter.

The unsettled weather continues on Thursday with rain mostly in the north and west. It stays very mild in most of the country with temperatures in the south close to 15C (59F).

Cold air returning southwards

By Friday low pressure begins pulling away into Scandinavia. That allows colder air to push down from the northwest but across the southern half of the UK it probably will still be quite mild.

On Saturday central and northern regions have a cold day with wintry showers. An area of rain could push eastwards across southern and central regions and there is an outside chance of that turning to sleet or snow on its northern edge as colder air spreads southwards.
