Tuesday starts damp in much of the UK but the far north is brighter. There will be a lot of cloud cover through the rest of the day and some patchy outbreaks are likely. The rain could be heavier at times in the west with eastern areas remaining mostly dry.

It will be milder than in recent days. Temperatures range from 7C (45F) in Scotland to 12C (54F) in the south. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.

Tonight light spells of rain continue in England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland should be mostly dry.

Tomorrow most places have an overcast and damp day. In the far north west more persistent and heavy outbreaks of rain develop through the afternoon.

During Thursday a band of rain steadily pushes southeastwards. That is followed by colder and clearer conditions in northern areas.

At this stage Friday and Saturday look chilly. Wintry showers are likely in the north but the south probably has a good deal of dry and sunny weather. On Sunday there is a risk of heavy rain pushing across much of the country.
