Cold weekend on the way

[Updated 07:00 10/11/2017]

Light snow

The November Central England Temperature (CET) is currently running very close to the 30 year average. This weekend will be cold but early next week temperatures recover. Beyond that it could turn colder again.

Friday begins with patchy rain in the southern half of the UK and in Scotland there are hefty showers. Through the day bright sunny develop but showers affect the north and west. It will be windy, especially in the north.

Temperatures range from 7C (45F) in Scotland to 11C (52F) in the south. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.

Tonight heavy outbreaks of rain push into Northern Ireland and then spread southeastwards into much of England and Wales. Scotland has a cold and frosty night with scattered showers.

Tomorrow starts wet and windy across southern and central areas with gales in the south west. The rain steadily clears southwards but it may linger into the south west until the second half of the day. Central and northern areas have a cold day with scattered wintry showers.

Sunday will be a cold and bright day in much of the UK. There will be wintry showers in the north and west and an odd one could penetrate into southern counties. If that happens a few flakes of snow could fall over higher parts of the Chilterns and Cotswolds.

Monday starts with a widespread frost. During the course of the day rain spreads into the north and west but southern and eastern counties remain dry.

Buzz looks at the medium term. TWO's third winter discussion update, "Winter is coming" has been issued.
