Mixed week in prospect

[Updated 07:10 23/10/2017]

Autumn fall

Varied weather is expected this week but in the south it will become very mild. There are tentative signs of colder air pushing down from the north in the medium term.

Monday begins wet in central and western areas. This morning patchy spells of rain spread eastwards and brighter conditions follow into the west. During the afternoon it turns drier and sunny spells become more widespread. In the north west scattered showers develop.

Temperatures range from 10C (50F) in Scotland to 15C (59F) in the south. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.

Tonight rain spreads across Wales and southern counties of England. It also turns wet in Northern Ireland and western Scotland.

Tomorrow heavy outbreaks of rain develop in central areas. The south and north start off damp but drier conditions return. It will be windy in the southern half of the UK.

On Wednesday wet weather continues to affect central areas and it may edge southwards. Ahead of it in the south it will be very mild. Northern areas have brighter and cooler conditions.

Through the second half of the week it looks as though high pressure will be centred close to or just to the west of the UK. There should be quite a lot of dry and mild weather but colder air may begin to push down from north later in the weekend or early next week.
