Very windy and showery

Storm Brian brings strong winds to southern and western parts of the UK today. After a changeable start drier and much warmer weather is set to return next week.

Saturday begins with gales in much of the south and west. Through the rest of the day it remains very windy with gusts of between 60mph and 70mph in exposed parts of the west and up to 50mph in inland areas. There will be heavy showery outbreaks of rain in western regions and at times they push into central and eastern areas.

Temperatures range from 10C (50F) in Scotland to 15C (59F) in the south. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.

Tonight showery rain affects the north and west. Storm Brian will be pulling away northeastwards but gusts of around 60mph are possible in north Wales, north western England and Northern Ireland.

Tomorrow winds gradually ease. Scattered showers are likely but there will be a good deal of dry and bright weather.

On Monday and Tuesday further wet and windy weather affects the north. In the south rain is likely to be patchy. 

Central heating off

During the rest of the week a warm southerly flow is set become established as high pressure builds to the east of the UK. Cloud amounts are uncertain but if sunny periods develop temperatures could soar to reach 21C (70F).
