October begins unsettled but high pressure should bring dry conditions at times this week. The monthly forecast favours a predominantly unsettled longer term outlook.
Sunday starts with rain in much of the UK but it has turned drier in Northern Ireland. This morning heavy rain continues in the north but it will be lighter and patchier in the south. During the afternoon brighter conditions return to northern and western areas, however much of England remains wet. It will be windy with gales in the north.
Temperatures range from 12C (54F) in the north to 17C (63F) in the south. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.
Tonight heavy showery rain spreads into the north west but southern and eastern areas become mostly dry. Winds strengthen further in the north with severe gales possible in exposed parts of Northern Ireland and the Western Isles.
Tomorrow it remains very windy with gales in northern England. Showers develop in the north and west but elsewhere it stays mostly dry.
The rest of the week is looking changeable. Ridges of high pressure are expected to bring drier days, particularly to the south, but further wet and windy spells are likely.
