Windy weather will sweep eastwards later today and overnight. The rest of the week looks cool and showery.
Storm Aileen which is set to hit the UK tonight is the first named storm of the season. For the latest wind speed forecast charts from the GFS and Arpege models use the links below:

Wind gusts could reach 70mph over high ground in North Wales, central and northern England. Gusts of up to 50mph are expected quite widely and with the trees still in some could be brought down and there is the potential for travel disruption.
Tomorrow morning clearer skies quickly return from the west, but heavy showers develop and become widespread. It remains windy.
During the second half of the week low pressure pulls away eastwards leaving a cool and showery northerly air stream in its wake. High pressure slowly edges in from the west, but the showers are likely to continue through the weekend, at least in central and eastern areas.
